LOST MAIL ART

This is a place where you can blog your mail art which went missing.  It will give us an idea of:

1) How many Mail Art pieces go missing

2) Types of Mail Art pieces which go missing

3) Which countries were involved

It will also be a way for the "would be recipient" and the rest of us to see what you sent.

Awards & competitions to be announced at a later date!

If I was to make a guess, I would say that your chocolate surprise didn't make it because it wasn't recognised as mail.  All sorts of rubbish gets put into postboxes: cigarette packets, bottle tops, bits of paper and suchlike (at least here in UK).  It all collects at the bottom of the postie's sack and gets dumped without much scrutiny; but then again, it looks from your photo that the postbox was a small one so maybe it should have been noticed.  I suppose it all depends on the mood of the postie on the day.   If you posted half a dozen at once it might work?

On the whole I find the daft stuff like your surprise makes it ok.  In fact I have never experienced such a mass extinction such as seems to have happened to me now.

Have you seen the Reginald Bray group here on IUOMA.?  you might enjoy the madness they get up to . . .

Concerning tiny mail, mail twice as big as this one (still half of the minimum allowed size) did arrive! But I noticed this one got lost in the mail:

I understand...

Hopefully your mail will arrive after all, I have noticed some delay from varipus countries, including yours.

Until I'll have received it, I'll cherish the photo of the Elephant mail! Thank you so much!

Hi Heleen.

I have never had so much mail go missing and it was all handled by the same clerk.

Customs may be a possibility but I have never had any problems before.  I am trying to find another Post Office to use.

In the past, I have had problems with post put into boxes rather than sent through the post office; it seems to attract more official interest and the post is often delayed or surcharged as not properly paid.  I do tend to put the small or odd shaped things into the boxes just as you do though I don't seem to do many of those at the moment

I mourn the loss of those elephants.  I was very pleased with that envelope and was looking forward to your surprise..

Are you sure the police or customs didn't take it for research?

Thank you anyway, I love to see and enjoy the scan!

If this postwoman might be a collector, maybe it helps to avoid the post office, just stick stamps yourself and put it directly into the mailbox. Would that be a possibility?

I usually put weird mail into the mailbox - for instance too small mail (to avoid hearing a 'no' from the postal worker), see for instanve the IUOMA group about weird shaped postcards - and I think (not measured) over 90% arrives.

I am discouraged that the elephants didn't arrive. I was especially pleased with it, and doubly so because it had something for Hannah's Birthday box inside it.  The thing was 'labelled' by the postwoman (right over the left hand elephant!) which upset me and I think it was doomed from the start.  At least there is a scan.

It has occurred to me that it is always the same woman who serves me, perhaps she is a collector?  That would explain a lot . . .

I will get another piece for Hannah done by the end of this week but heaven knows where I can SAFELY post it.

My confidence is shot!

Less than 10% is an incredibly low rate. It seems that there is something going wrong in the post office. Or would police or secirity service take the letters as they might think these are sent by some criminal organisation (in detective movies I see sometimes letters with letters like these, used for blackmailing or kidnapping and so...)???

Anyway, when seeing the photos I immediately fell for the elephnat, and when looking closer I see my address is on it!:-)

Alas it didn't yet arrive, and I am looking forward to receiving it, sooner or later.

The problem, for me,  with a computer is that I know too much . . . or too little.

I keep scans of envelopes sent out.  I keep copies of the scans people put up when my envelopes arrive.  It is interesting for me to see how the journey left its mark.

But looking through mt folder of last month's postings, I find less than 10% have arrived (as far as I know).

There is no compulsion to post arrived mail, of course (thank goodness), but some had been sent to people who make a habit of acknowledging post so I am left wondering if they arrived at all?

Here are a few that might be lost; posted here so that at least their ghost will be seen . . .

Posted in June but apparently lost in the system . . .

I think this envelope will probably end up here.  I did it for the 10th Fake stamp Day and the 'rules' were that no real stamp could be attached.  I'm pretty certain it will never leave these sceptered isles!  Pity really as I think it might be one of my more successful jobs . . .
