The Peace Crane Project for Japan

THE ONE THOUSAND PEACE CRANE GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED AS OF 1/6/12. (PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MORE PEACE CRANES.)

Thank you to everyone who made peace cranes!

There's a story told in Japan that if you make a thousand origami Peace Cranes, you or someone you love will be healed. This group is for those who wish to make an origami Peace Crane which will then be sent to the Hiroshima Peace Museum.

Please make the peace crane with a piece of paper no larger than 4" square.

Question: do we make mail art, a rendering or an actual origami crane?

I think this is a great idea. Aside from sending donations, I think as artists, we would like to contribute and help with the healing. Might I make a suggestion? Since it seems many in Japan are connected to the internet in some way or form, maybe we could set up a page ( like on Blogger) and have people photograph there "cranes" and post them with their messages. I would be very happy to volunteer my time for this task. The "cranes" and their messages could get out to the people of Japan this way until we find a contact to send them to.

I made this yesterday:

Thanks, lts, when disasters hit there's a  vital struggle to overcome our sense of hopelessness, we can't go numb or remain indifferent because something's happening far away...  we deeply need to keep feel our connectedness with the people at the epicenter, with the workers still sacrificing their health to try to stave off the worst, with all the sentient beings  effected by this crisis. May the peace cranes deliver our messages of love and concern. I surely wish we could do more.
