P.O.Box owners

A post office box (often abbreviated P.O. Box or PO Box) is a uniquely-addressable lockable box located on the premises of a post office station. Why do you have one? What do you do with it. What is the advantage? How does yours look like?

In many countries, particularly in Africa, and the Middle East there is no 'door to door' delivery of mail. For example, should one post mail to a street address in Namibia, it will be returned to sender as undeliverable.[1] Consequently renting a PO box has traditionally been the only way to receive mail in such countries, although some, like Jordan, are now introducing home delivery.[2]

Generally, post office boxes are rented from the post office either by individuals or by businesses on a basis ranging from monthly to annual, and the cost of rent varies depending on the box size. Central business district or CBD PO boxes are usually more expensive than a rural PO box.

PO Boxes in the United States can now also be rented and renewed online at http://www.usps.com/poboxes. There is an online PO Box locator that allows users to find available PO Boxes in their local Post Office.

In the US, the rental rate used to be uniform across the country. Now, however, a postal facility can be in any of seven fee groups by location; in addition, certain customers qualify for free box rental.

In the United Kingdom, Royal Mail PO boxes are often little more than pigeon holes in the secure section of a Sorting Office, and are only accessible by staff. In such cases, the renter of the PO box will be issued with a card on which is written the PO box number and post office name, and must produce this to the desk staff when collecting mail. For an additional fee, the Royal Mail will deliver received items to the renter's geographical address.

Why do you have one?

In my Country usually this mail object for exchange correspondence is named Apartado Aéreo... i´ts similar to use a P.O.Box term...

I Have one from a 1982... to the present (27 years…) because… I was involved in Mail Art practices when I was young Graphic Design Student in my City Medellín in UPB... Papal Bolivar University... by a teacher named Carlos Echeverry... Graphic Designer...(active Networker in a early years of 80's Decade...) in a regular course about Graphic expression that it will be focused in a alternative way expressions like a Poster, fanzine, and of course Mail Art as a free way for make art without any rules and in different techniques amplified to all contemporary art scene particularly signed for conceptual art... (mail art as a another form of conceptual art… in general terms…) that gives to me a possibility to contact so many artists, visual poets, graphic artists, performers... etc....

What do you do with it?
I wait the mail art message… from this time…. I an economics good times I received so many greetings and message… but in a hard economics situation this object it was a way to meditate in the death, the meaning and value of communication, the frontiers, barriers, fences, apartheid, political prisons in jail. The tortures, the children without home, the isolated women abounded, and the absence of a mail art friends with the enormous energy, news about alternative and underground scene…

But always this object that's look at me without surrender held my spirit full or without massage or Communications…

Actually… I received a little mail art message because I´ts very expensive for a Lationamerican Mail Artist to practice beside another Mail Art new & old incomers and Masters that his countries doesn't has a enormous political and economic problems as our South and Central Latinoamerican countries…

In others words.. The principal way of practice Mail Art as a pioneer for of Net Art, Internet, Web communities that held all about paradigms and model that you and I find in actually e-exchange way Communications…. Is the plane… full of gasoline… very expensive taxes yet…

What is the advantage?
IS… if the Internet collapse… We always it will has a the best alternative and parasite way of Communications without ART as a capitalism form to make and Exchange Communications… as a Wild Way to give and offers between us our own watt o understand the reality, politics and life…

How does yours look like?
I´ts look like in the similar appearance that the postal system rents to me…
This an invitation to your that send me stickers… and message for make up the hieratic visual personality of my P.O. Box

P.O. Box: Pioneer Object Boxchangers….!!!!
