Just wanted to give all of you a quick Blaster update. If you could pass on to others that I have no doubt missed, I would appreciate it. While Papa Blaster still appears to be quite comfortable when I visit him at West Oaks, for the past three Saturdays he has been fairly disoriented, and not really responding all much to conversation, or appearing to appreciate mail that I've brought to him. Last week, the hospice folks called to let me know that his appetite has been in decline, and that that is a fairly common side effect of the progression of his illness. When I visited during lunch yesterday, he had been moved from his normal table to the "assisted eating" table, and was surrounded by folks being fed by the staff, etc. He was still eating on his own, but he got several bites in and then seemed to sort of lose interest/lose focus. I don't want to bum everyone out, but I also want to keep you all informed, because I know how much you and the rest of his extended family care for him. I will make sure to pass along all well wishes, but I think he may have finally hung up the proverbial correspondent art hat, as it were. - This note being passed on from Ackerman's daughter, Stevie, to all those who've been sending mailart (guess it's time to stop). With regrets, C
good to know this. Have sweet memories of the mail I received during the mail-interview I did with him......
The Blaster Al passed away yesterday evening, March 17th around 11pm, after making preparations for his final journey during the day and his daughter Stephanie (or "Stevie") says that "He also appeared to be simultaneously composing another great opus in his mind, but we'll have to make do with the ones that he left behind for the time being." Here is a link to a nice write-up I found online today about Al : http://www.ehserecords.com/blasteral/
