This is artwork by Pig Dada ( Badhuin Simon) who died in 2006. I am doing a small tribute to him as it is the Year of the Pig and I found his work is being sold in Ebay by Roberto Scala. Check

Well well, how interesting,,,

Sorry I stirred a nest of hornets.

To be clear; I hope my Mail Art output is not sold. I hope it is binned, burnt, eaten, used to line the cat's tray, as Richard suggests. Anything but sold. I do not relish it being archived either. Imagine the fire hazard. Having said that, I archive it all. My archive is huge, I plan to leave it to my heirs.

Res, having the occasion, I would pronounce your name Res Nullious as in Latin with an italian accent which is probably the nearest to the original Roman accent and the name Mary Ann makes me think of certain white rabbit with a pocket watch, who was looking for a Mary Ann in a hurry. The rabbit was in a hurry, not Mary Ann.

Mary Ann, I am moving towards your attitude, but I cannot say I do not care a fig, I do care about figs. No figs in England and the imported few are expensive. Therefore I care.

I knew Badhuin. He died a tragic death. He jumped under a train. Perhaps the lack of money had something to do with it, so selling his work is double upsetting. Glad it has not been sold, as far as I know Anna Banana could not sell her collection either.

Which takes me to Richard, I agree with you that Mail Art is expensive. I have been at it since 1986 and cannot give it up it has becomed a way of life.

But what really irks me is that I searched eBay and nobody is selling ME!

High Res.  second thoughts . . . just seen the word 'mainly' in your comment.  No, not mainly conceptual; Not mainly performance.  It is all of it together and different for every person.  It can be just swapping postcards but it can be so much more too.  I really should consider more before I begin to tap . . .

I notice the Pig Dada piece that started all this didn't sell anyway.

High Res (Iv'e always wanted an excuse to type that . . .)

Labels, labels, labels . . .

Yes I think I may be saying that but also 'performance'.  It is more than just a thing: paper, collage, print, stamps and suchlike.  It is the only art form (if it is an art form) I have found, where the viewer is as important as the creator or, perhaps better said; the viewer and the creator are (or can be) equal.  But this is to over state it.  Everyone's idea is maybe different; everyone's idea is correct.  I just know, that for me, there is more to it than just a thing . . .

Richard's comment, like his postcards, is quite perfect too

I have always thought it is best just to do rather than talk (or type) about it . . .

10.24.19 Dare Ms. M.A. Martha,  ...I 've been involved in this activity called "mail art" well over fifty years now &  based on the commentary that I see  shared here regarding the Bauduin Simon Ebay item I am  apparently still missing some sort of basic misunderstanding.  My attitude is this--- if I send a postcard to someone,  I think of it as an offering,  a gift & sent because of my regard or admiration for the recipient (which in turn would mean that I have respect for that individual & his/her judgement). The postcard, envelope, letter, whatever, etc. now belongs to whomever I intended  to have it. If the       person receiving the item chooses to place it in a frame (under glass & on the wall---Oh, my goodness!! -my guess is that I would be tickled pink should I ever learn of such). But I also understand that it could just as easily have been placed temporarily under a magnet on the refrigerator door or tossed in a cardboard box in the closet or reworked in some way (That "add & pass" jazz---don't you know ) or maybe even placed directly in the trash & or perhaps used to line the bottom of the Kitty Litter box.  The way I see it is: It's all "okay" by me as it belongs to someone else now (The item probably even has their name on it & they In turn have the right to do with it as they please).  SinCelery, Richard Canard ......................Post Scriptum: Incidentally, I have always saved everything & also try to relay "Add & Passes" when instructed & it has all cost me dearly in more ways than one.

Am I the only one who doesn't care a fig?  Mail art is an idea - not a piece of paper - and therefore cannot be sold . . .

I'm just saying . . .

Jennifer, Carmen, Mary Ann. I found that Roberto Scala is also a member of IUOMA so I challenged him. I am getting ready for the storm!

That is a shame that a fellow mail artist would try to profit on the work of another mail artist. Bad karma, for sure.

There was some Anna Banana stamps on E-bay too . . .

As another little reminder of the real world I ought to add that anything posted on IUOMA, or anywhere else on this magic box, can be 'saved', 're-posted' or 'downloaded' by the whole world and his wife.  I dare say there are on-disc collections of mail-art circulating somewhere even as I type . . .

Really? I am so shocked. mail art sold by mail artists. I lead a sheltered life, obviously, I did not know this was going on. The only time I came across such low deed was years ago when Anna Banana was talking about selling her archive ( without success). I asked her if she was going to pay a fee to the artists whose work she was selling. She answered she had done a lot of work by keeping the art!

not the first time . . . a nice sheet of stamps was on E-bay a couple of weeks ago.
