Richard - here's a comment from Jason Sturgill, the artist who's work appears on these stamps:

"The artwork for the stamps is a continuation of a series I’ve been doing with these expressive hand characters. I’ve had 3 hand characters (peace, love, rock&roll) released as enamel pins with the Portland based company @badge_bomb and this project introduces 2 new characters collectively known as “misunderstanding” alongside peace and love."

@museumofmailart, we use a F.P. Rosback Co. perforator. All perforations are done by hand with this machine.

post scriptum: .....oh, I finally understand.  a "thumbs up"  wouldn't  do either because of "thumbs down"  & "the pointing finger" usually implies left or right.

24.0219 Dare mister josh berger, ... very  clever  hand/face cartoon gestures (one can even read a ray johnson bunny into the mix----- but the classic single "pointing finger" is missing ...or is that because the number of fingers/choices with  lefties & righties won't fit the format????
