At Least Jimmy Connors Loves Me (Berlin, Germany)

June 14, 2018 - Do not misunderstand: I like Jimmy Connors’ mail art and I am thrilled he sends it to me (a lot of it, in fact). But who the hell is Jimmy Connors? Can anyone elaborate?

I tend to know networkers, but Jimmy Connors is a total mystery. And with all the fake identities, I (in a paranoid way) am not sure Jimmy Conners is Jimmy Conners. You know? Anyway, here is a quick gloss of work the ever-faithful Jimmy Connors has been sending over the months.

Jimmy Connors tends to send post-card size collage. Here’s a more structured look at some of the pieces:

But Jimmy Connors sends larger pieces as well. This piece seems to be Trashpo (aka DKUNST) because the envelope is filled with a lot of scrap material. The envelope is very interesting:

And barbargirl, I believe you are discovering mail art is full of mysteries, mysteries within mysteries.

It's much better that mysteries concerning Jimmy Connors are solved. We don't want to make him a myth or rumor if not deserved.

The next mystery, I am sure, is right around the bend...

Dear Richard, Nancy, barbargirl, William, Caroline, I'm glad I could bring the work of Jimmy Connors to your attention. At least I achieved something worthwhile. He is a very fine artist and I should add an accepted member of IUOMA.

I appreciate that some of the finest network minds have applied themselves to some "investigative mail art" and solved any mysteries concerning Jimmy. My question really was, I guess, how could I have overlooked such a fine artist?

I will add: I note in the work of Jimmy Connors a use of MinXus iconography. Very pronounced, it seems to me, Apparently I am mistaken and this is a coincidence; that's possible. But any unidentified m-a from France or Germany immediately causes me to consider lingering agents of Minxus. I have good reason for this but will not disclose the particulars. However, Jimmy stands absolved.

Darn. I love a good mystery. This one was solved too soon.

Update: I've learned from IUOMA members who exchange mail art with him that Jimmy Connors is a non-mysterious IUOMA member in good standing--so we have no mystery here. He is Mr. F. Schneider, who uses the name Jimmy Connors for his Berlin post box:

A few IUOMA blogs a while ago mentioned a problem with returned mail art, but the confusion at his Berlin post office was cleared up, so ... onward. Nice collage cards, Jimmy Connors!

What Richard said, but to be honest I'd have to add this to "admire" if I said it:   "and am apt to be susceptible to." Speaking in first-person only! Thankgod it's the weekend, can I stop editing now? Yep.
