Most cats can overcome motion sickness by desensitizing them with repeat short, uneventful trips. Gradually accustom your cat to spending time in the car with the engine off, then with the engine on, then short trips, then the cross-country adventure. This can take several months. Double-check that the carrier door is absolutely secure! Letting your cat loose in the car is dangerous and could result in him getting wedged underneath the brake pedal, or ripping your back to shreds. For safety’s sake use a blind box or carrier that's tailored to cats and gives your pet enough space and ventilation to be comfortable.
