Walmarth Advertising Supplement by Cascadia Artpost (Olympia, Washington, USA) with Mail Art Martha (Beckenham, UK) & Diane Keys (Illinois, USA)

JackL - 7.30.2015-1

Mail art by IUOMA member Cascadia Artpost aka Jack Lattemann (Olympia, Washington, USA) based on art and concepts by Mail Art Martha (Beckenham, UK) and Diane Keys (Elgin, Illinois, USA)

July 30, 2015 - Cascadia Artpost has helped realize the artistic visions of Mail Art Martha and Diane Keys through marvelous models and now an incredible publication which is currently circulating in the Eternal Network.

JackL- 7.30.2015-2

Trashpo and DKult have always promoted an ideology of anti-consumerism and pro-recycling. Trashpo is, after all, a form of recycling. Mail Art Martha was well-known in the network for her trash trolley and use of found material long before she joined forces with DKult. She has helped make DKULTUK one of the best known and most innovative DKult chapters in the world. Mail Art Martha’s Walmarth Corporation is an entertaining and witty parody of corporate, consumer culture. Cascadia Artpost’s painstaking realization of Mail Art Martha’s ideas through detailed, special effects style models makes Walmarth Corporation one of the crowning achievements of Trashpo in the half-decade that it has been producing a large quantity of art.

JackL - 7.30.2015-3

For those who believe Trashpo is simply collecting candy bar wrappers on the street and mailing them to people, Cascadia Artpost and Mail Art Martha reveal that the practice yields a wide variety of literary and visual creations. All that is required is imagination. The center section of the Walmarth Advertising Supplement includes usable stickers:

Both Mail Art Martha and Diane Keys have created numerous Trashpo devices and inventions. Cascadia Artpost references these in the publication and offers new products as well.

JackL - 7.30.2015-5

Diane Keys has proposed ideas for a Trashpo and DKult economy aka the D-Konomy, although the specifics of the program are not entirely clear at this time.

I have no doubt that this ingenious work by Cascadia Artpost is one of the great achievements of Trashpo and is destined for a place in Eternal Network history. I also applaud the collaborative nature of the work, which integrates and acknowledges the contributions of Mail Art Martha and Diane Keys, among others.

do the snobby elitists have superstores?

Comment by DKeys on August 1, 2015 at 2:56pm

to call trashpo JUST collage is like calling art elitists JUST snobs

DK, when I once wrote "Trashpo parody" Jim Leftwich responded: "Trashpo parody? That's not possible."

When you write "marginalize DKult and trashpo" I can only respond: How can you marginalize it any more than it already is?

Trashpo has always had harsh critics. Even if some of it is collage, what it the problem?

Comment by DKeys on July 31, 2015 at 3:45pm

There ARE some who are trying to marginalize Dkult and trashpo saying it is just collage

RC--thank you for the lovely butterfly--it means a lot that you would snatch it off the streets for me and risk looking barbaric.  was thinking of using it in an exquisite corpse piece like yours but I think THAT might be barbaric

31.07.15 Dare De Villo S., ...perhaps this is the reason I enjoy your commentary....you seem to be so quick to see  & share insight ... & yes, I'm afraid you must be right again. ... I think that I was a freshman in Harry High School when I first heard the term " Cliche' " ...of course,(at the time) I thought it was something exotic. ...yeah, it's long past time for Richard to shuffle out to the front porch rocker (except for that" heat index" thing)...I think maybe I'll just lie on the couch in front of the t.v. & mumble rants at Al Gore for starting all this computerized global warming business. ... Best to you. Richard Cliche'

Richard, I share your awe and enthusiasm. I have never seen anything exactly like this in m-a.

The UK Kulters are becoming invincible in terms of innovation, in that Jack used his considerable talents to articulate Martha's expansive vision.

I believe an important message here is that Trashpo can transcend the torn cereal boxes, flattened aluminum cans and discarded shopping lists that have become its tropes - dangerously close to clichés now.

Martha & Jack should head for the bothy. I'm waiting for the lawsuit.

Wait, Jack & Diane - isn't that a song?
