Asemic object poem by Karen Champlin (Illinois, USA) circa 2010 (remix)

Comment by De Villo Sloan on April 11, 2015 at 12:30pm

I'm glad you like these. The remixing is just a matter of running the original scans through all the various color, clarity, contrast, etc. filters again and re-adjusting. Some tremendous work came out of Asemics 16, and I'll try to do some more. It could involve re-scanning as well. I have the books, but there has been some fading in the paper.

I saw an interesting article about "digital decay" - about how things that were posted online years ago do start to come apart and lose coherence and integrity in various ways. Why does color seem to fade? I would think a scan would be forever. Maybe it's improving scanner technology, bad scanning in the first place; but I am finding remixing can bring new life to a lot of this work.

Susan is right. And these are full. Of possibility? Possibility is always a presence in Diane's work. (Diehard fan here.) Whatever your remixing entailed, DVS, the results are beautiful. I especially love the first (top) one.

I did remixes of two pages of asemics by Diane Keys that she made for the Asemics 16 Collaborative Book Project (that was headquartered right here in our group). I'm pleased with the way they came out. I'd like to do more remixes of work people contributed to the project.
