Barbie themed? Mail art from J Block, Betha Greschak and David Stafford

In the space of a few days, while getting 'Spirit of the Forest' mail art up for the exhibition in Colchester, these three mail artist's mail arrived at Nayland Farm and I see a theme…

Jay Block has sent me a terrifying version of the exquisite corpse!  Not sure if Jay is saying clothes make us or it's all an illusion… There was a skinny mirror at the place we stayed in Truro last weekend.  Gotta say I loved it! Huge thanks from J whose book I will be consulting the next time I need a glamorous look!

Betha Greschak's journal is a trashpo boekie, featuring some more of those long tall, glamorous women from a designer series pattern. Having said that, the size is 18, so again there seems to be a mismatch between who we want to be and what we actually look like...

I have posted all the pages of Bertha's journal at the postal ledger:

And then there is this from David Stafford, and here I need to ask if I missed a Barbie mail art call… did someone sign me up and I never noticed? Like the two previous sort of Barbie themed pieces, David's is a little more than you'd imagine when you think BARBIE.

So there you have, and you can see why I might be thinking that I have been channeling a particulaar kind of mail art.

All great stuff, and many thanks!

Apropos of Jay's comment, here's a sculpture my friend Kurt did many years ago.

Thank you all for sending me great stuff! Perfect explanation, Jay.  Much better than mine!

The corpse came to mind with the Hollywood award cycle... so much about the carpet.  The idea of human sculptures on parade and interchangeable parts... there you have it.

Thanks for the sweet blog, Rebecca.
