wallace berman is definitely a unique and essential artist in the history of california art, though he chose to stay under the radar for most of his career. if memory serves me well, i think he was in england for a show at the fraser gallery in london, and possibly met or caught the eye of peter blake, who i believe created the cover art for the sgt. pepper album. definitely a kultur ikon!

This was my day to learn something new - about Wallace Berman. Wow, an interesting and talented guy. I'd like to track down his publication Semina w/ all the Beat and Black Mt. writers.

How did the guy manage to get on the cover of the Sgt. Pepper album? Now that is a kultur ikon.

yes ... i was living in los angeles when wallace berman surfaced with his amazing hand held radio images. i actually purchased one of his prints at a movie theatre in hollywood that was showing russ meyer's "faster pussycat, kill kill". i think i paid 2 dollars for it. made many visits to the ferus gallery while attending junior college in pasadena. i have a berman litho hanging in my studio. he and joseph cornell are my favorite artists to revisit.

18.12.14 Dare Stan Askew & Linda Faye F., .... Stan Askew  creates minature portable shrines....& that's none other than Gene Autry. A major singing cowboy star from another time & place. I think he was primarily responsible for popularizing that whole idea of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Rain Deer-- but that's just my childhood memory babbling....I would also lIke to mention the west coast pop artist Wallace Berman from the 60's. His images of  Hand Held Multiple Image Devices were indeed prophetic. A true visionary . The kind of everyday thing folks nowadays take for granted.... & so it is....or was ... I can remember seeing it all long, long ago....(i.e. thanks to Wallace Berman...another one of those crazy, visionary artists). Ave Uh Nez dae. Richard C. ....Post Scriptum: Ms. Linda Faye F.,...didn't I send something your way recently?... It's getting hard for me to remember...all of this stuff begins to blend together at some point.

The piece does look like a little television. Do you remember the cowboy?  --Linda
