Arty slides came in the mail yesterday! 'Love getting them always...but formay is way to small for me eyes to make any more. I do like the large slides from Henrik, Val! But not easily found...'could make own slide frames...hmmm, might work on that.

Thanks to Janine for these three fantastic arty slides xxxooo

The 'big' slide mounts were made for medium format film which was 6cm wide, so the mounts are 6x6cm. They were to mount slides made with cameras which had a square format like the Hasselblad and Rolli, and the 'twin-lens' cameras.

There are in fact very many varieties of 35mm sized slide mounts, like the half frame Valentine mentions, which were designed for various film formats and also for use in slide & tape shows - a retro version of power point.

Yes, they are glass -- double sided glass.

Yes, we can of course make our own frames -- any size we like.

I started this whole thing off when I realised the possibilities of 35mm Arty Slides as mini-portrait 'frames', And then things sort off took off from there.

I thought I was on to something original, but, of course, other people had been and discovered Arty Slides long before I -- and you -- did.

There is absolutely no reason why we should stick rigidly to the 35mm format -- although it is convenient, and there are 35mm slides available if you look hard enough for them.

I, personally, won't move up to these Rolleiflex size slides 'cos I don't think that I can get hold of any . I've never come across any in 3+ years of looking for photographic stuff. Half-frame slides exist, and I have a few of those, but I find that the windows of those are too small (and the cardboard frames too big) to really do anything creative with.

I've done some stuff with floppy disks. They are really just big Arty Slides and are comparable I suppose (but I haven't measured them) with the Rolleifelex ones.

The guiding principle for Arty Slides, and for Mail Art, and, perhaps for all Art, is to do whatever you want to do!

Look what I discovered in Copenhagen: BIG ARTY SLIDES!

I've just spent a week in Copenhagen and stayed at the house of my friend henrik who is a professional (mainly black'n'white portrait) photographer. We got to talk about Arty Slides. He vanished into his cellar and came back with some GIANT Arty Slides that he used with a Rolleiflex camera in the 80's. Here's a couple of photos -- with a standard 35 mm Arty Slide for comparison.

(I apologise that the 35mm one has my photo on it, but it was the only Arty Slide that I had. I also apologise that the photo of me on the Arty Slide is somewhat faded, but then so am I. "You're so vain/You probably think this Arty Slide is about you.")

@ Sue...so glad you liked the boekie and that it got there OK...you may certainly use this idea as I got it from Angie when she showed a slide boekie by someone else...I used a different binding method...have fun and thank you for posting *!*

@ Janine....so, so cute! Love them....
