From: Henry Guild (0049-0518 / 0053-0618)

The end of May and middle of June brought two pieces from Henry Guild of Forest Hills, NY.

The first envelope, postmarked May 25, includes street photos entitled "Alice and Keyhole." Two photos show a young man perched on the front step of a city building. He holds the neck of his jacket closed, trying to stay warm. He is unfazed by the people who walk past him. A third photo shows another person sitting on a milk crate. A handwritten sign rests against his legs. A news story is on the flip side of the photo pages, "Two Mexican policemen convicted for murder of Moises Sanchez; chief suspects still at large."

June 13 is the date of the second envelope from Henry Guild. There are four photographs featuring a female walking on the sidewalk of a busy city. Each shot zooms in closer to the young gal. She may be listening to something. Her right hand is up to her ear, as though she is trying to drown out the street sounds. The photo captions read, "One pill makes you larger, And one pill makes you small." The news article on the back of these photo sheets reads, "19-Year-Old Manuel Cano-Pacheco Was Killed After Losing DACA and Returning to Mexico."

I wonder if Henry's subjects were aware of the camera lens on them? Guild's photographs capture a moment in time. They (and the accompanying news stories) are interesting and thought provoking.
