Painting by Derya Avci (Elazig, Turkey)

Mail art by Derya Avci (Elazig, Turkey)

August 3, 2018 - I have not received much mail art from Turkey. So this piece by Derya Avci is a thrill, although I do not believe she is an IUOMA member. Maybe she will be!

I hope you will share my view that this work could easily be at home in an art museum or a very fine gallery. Derya Avci is a subtle and skilled expressionist painter. Yet the work is also very much in the egalitarian spirit of mail art. Derya Avci painted this on sturdy but light cardboard! The piece is relatively small, given it would easily succeed as a much larger painting on canvas, and measures approximately 3 X 9 inches.

In every way unique and beautiful.  I love the handmarbled paper used for the envelope.

Thank you for posting this!

Thanks - such a great piece.

I've received some asemic writing from Turkey, but that's about it until now.

I'm glad you posted this, DVS. Yes, I love the subtlety and the expressionist approach here, as well as the flat-out mystery of it and its wonderful texture.
