Mail Art Collab by Diane Keys & Richard Canard (Illinois, USA)

DK - Richard 1229.2017 - 1

Mail art collab by IUOMA members Diane Keys (Elgin, Illinois, USA) and Richard Canard (Carbondale, Illinois, USA)

December 29, 2017 - This scan of a remarkable mail art collaboration by Diane Keys and Richard Canard has been circulating on Facebook in recent days to much acclaim. I’ve “appropriated” the image to blog and, generally, perhaps, share with a wider and certainly more focused network audience.

I believe this is mail art of the “Instant Classic” variety that deserves even more attention than it is receiving. I cannot help but note a similarity the work of the late Susan McAllister (Berkeley, California, USA). Possibly this is intentional.

Congratulations to Diane Keys and Richard Canard!

Thanks stripygoose, Toni and William.

Richard, Diane posted this on FB. I was very impressed when I saw it & asked DK about it. Her response was very "nonplussed" (?) given my perspective it's a great piece. So I took matters into my own hands with this unauthorized presentation.

You know I still post work by our friend Susan McAllister. That connection only gives the work greater resonance.

And Richard - thx for the other work arriving by mail. I appreciate it much. You know the asemic project has me Hop Ping.

29.12.17 Dare DeVillo S.,  ...What a surprize to see this again...  I enjoy the process of making  doodles  (ever since elementary school  & in the margins of my homework).  This gesture is of course primarily the efforts of Ms. Diane Keys . She constructed practically 99% of the black areas & all I did was "color in" between- the- lines and add a few dots.  & yes, I also admired the "Black & Red" postcards of the late Ms. Susan McAllister. Thanx for your attentions. SinCelery, Richard C.
