In order to be a SELF-portrait, wouldn't YOU need to be the one doing the painting or taking the photo yourSELF?  I have many photos taken of me by OTHER people, but only a few that I took myself. Please clarify.See More

I noticed there was no group for this, and I thought that there should be because it is nice to wake up to an envelope of goodies without knowing it was coming. You can also post wishes on this page - things you would like to receive to give people an idea of what they could send you. Comment with your address - (and your wishes)See More

"Thanks.  These were fun to make.It is really strange to see this image blown up so very much.  In reality, each stamp is about an inch tall and one never notices the teeny tiny scratches and such."

Call for "Haiga" postcards 2019-12-31. No violence or bigotry please.
Please send a POSTCARD with your own or someone else's Haiga to:

Lois Richter
1315 Torrey St
Davis CA 95618, USA

"Haiga" is a poetry/image art form that uses three lines of text ALONG WITH on image to describe a moment.  Because English syllables differ from Japanese phonemes, the lines do NOT have to be 5-7-5 syllables -- they can be much shorter and still be English "ku".  Preferably, there are no run-on sentences; no verbs; and the text alone would not evoke the same thing as the text/image together.

Traditionally haiku is about nature and senryu is about humans or human-made objects.  Either haiku or senryu is welcome in HAIGA.
Below is one of mine.
The postcards I get by the due date of 31 December 2019 will be photoed and published in 2020.
If you want return mail, please clearly print postal address on the card.
If you prefer a PDF, please write Lois95618@gmail.com to request it.
I plan to publish the collection in a family-friendly place, so I will THROW AWAY violent or bigoted cards.  (Erotic and non-violent political cards are welcome, but may be published separately.)
