Bonjour! This message which I just sent to the Postal History Boutique Group might interest you:

"

The Chinese are taking over!!

In Tuesday's edition of the British 'Daily Telegraph', I read that the famous UK stamp collecting company Stanley Gibbons has almost exhausted its stock of the iconic Penny Balck stamps (the world's first ever postage stamp, from 6 May 1840) after a Chinese company placed an order for 10,000 of them.

Stanley's CEO was quoted as saying, "We normally sell no more than a hundred penny blacks in any given year, so this trade order reates a demand 100 times the normal market size."

I wonder what the Chinese are up to: any ideas,

(I have a large collection of Penny Reds and wonder if this level of Chinese demand for very early stamps will increase their value -- not that I plan to sell them)

Regards, Val"

Do you know anything about this?
