Dear Rose,

Rather belatedly, many thanks for the nice New Year's card that you sent me: a very nice collage indeed, and a strange combination of a bikini-ed (?) torso and snowy streets.

I'm having a one-man campaign to keep the local hospitals in business in 2013 (foot and eye operations + disc problems*), but will be back on the Mail Art train again, and sending you something back in the next week or so.

Encore Bonjour Rose! Thanks for the card of the girl with a shadow thing over her eyes. Ity's very nice. Nope, I don't know about the sculptor who created wind-powered beach-walking animals: do tell me more, please?

You can come and walk on 'my' beach anytime. It's a bit cold now, but wrap up warm and it's certainly walkable.

I'll be mailing you something back soon -- some beach monsters, perhaps?

Again, my thanks, Dear Rose, for another one of your cards..;and the Geography lesson, too. You're going to be traversing from the winter snow in the Geiger Pass to the desert-like conditions of Salton Sea: hope you survive! Weather-wise, we've been having a drought, and then it got hot too. So, I put away my winter clothes and got out my summer ones, took the winter wheels and tyres off my bike, and put on my summer ones, and guess what? IT'S RAINING AND COLD!Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Apart from that, I've an Envelope Exhibition opening tomorrow, and am very busy. I'll mail you something bavck soon.

Bonjour Rose, Thanks for your latest card: very nice indeed; You do read some serious stuff! Me, I'm reading a book by Tim Moore called 'You are awful (but I love you): Travels through unloved Britain.' He makes a tour of the UK in the worst possible car, staying at the worst hotels and going to the most desolate places and eating in the worst restaurants, etc. It's funny, and a weird way sociologically interesting. Alas, what has happened to the country I once lived in! (Answer: you left, and it went to pot!) I'll be mailing you something back soon; Best wishes, Val

Many thanks for the card that you sent me --very nice indeed!

I've finished my big Post Office book at last. It was too heavy to take to England, and when I got back home I had to re-read the last 100 or so pages where I left off so that I could follow the argument.

 Going from one extreme to the other, I'm now reading 'Alice in Wonderland' -- it's very good, and I'm certain I'm getting more, much more, out of it than when i was a child. I re-read 'Winnie the pooh' before Xmas, because I was starting mailing out Pooh sticks to people.

I haven't read 'The Swerve': who is the author?

The weather here is freezing cold and horrible; When i feel brave enough to go to the Post Office I'll mail you something back...by the end of the week, I hope.

Bonjour Rose! Thanks for your latest card...I wonder if the face on it was yours? What am I reading, you ask? An incredible book on the history of the British Post Office from 1500 or so to now. It's a fantastic mix of scholarly research, social history, economics, technologies (from horses to ICT), etc. 800+ pages, and although I'm usually a very fast reader, it's taken me 10 days to read 400 of them: but it's time well spent. And you? What books are on your bedside table? 

I'm going to the UK at the end of the week, but will mail ou something before then.

Where is Sigean? Sigean is a little village (pop 4000) in the south of France. Its about 700 miles from Paris. If you have a map of France, it's almost mid-way between Narbonne and Perpignan on the east side of France, near the Spanish-French border just above the Pyrenees, and about 150 miles from Barcelona.

What French authors should you read? Start with Georges Simenon and the Maigret books --- they are amongst my all-time favourites, but then I like well-written (which means inevitably old-style, detective books; Ed McBain is my favourite US detective author.
