RECEIVED: Tokyo Nights Mail-Art, Karmic Speeding Ticket, and Monkeys from Marie Wintzer (Saitama, Japan)

February 10, 2011 - Many IUOMA members and others in the mail-art network are familiar with Marie Wintzer's beautiful Tokyo night photos. It is a gift indeed to receive one, and Marie selected a perfect shot for me. Marie is from France and currently lives in Japan. She draws Japanese culture into her mail-art. I can see from the threading the influence of Cheryl Penn's South African Mail-Art School also. What a tremendous synthesis of global cultures taking place and quickly. Here is the reverse side:

Above is a fine example of Marie Wintzer's more text-oriented work. This is just an amazing package, to this point anyway. She also complains about the Mail-Art Psychic. I should have guessed she would take it upon herself to consult Japanese oracles to get the scoop on the future. This is explained in her letter below. Check out the elegant handwriting:

Or better yet, what's the line from the Ed Dorn biography about his Protestant upbringing? Something like: "Everything is not allright, and it's not going to be allright." Now I get it from Japan instead of from Cotton Mather. Marie even sent proof. This is from the shrine:

This part is fairly cool. Below is the karmic speeding ticket mentioned in the title. I'm probably using karma incorrectly here but that's the flux:

Obviously, you don't want to get slapped with a No. 63. But I have been served. I like: "Intimate people are getting off one by one." Can I just mail the fine in Fluxus Bucks to the shrine? Or do I have to show up in Karmic Court? Anyway, I think SHE got the No. 63 and sent it to me. The good fortune she is keeping is mine. That's OK, Marie. The envelope is a real treat because /// it's monkeys!

This is just the best. I am keeping it in a very prominent place. Definitely one of my all-time favorites. Here's the reverse:

Cheryl, this is uncanny. On the day (last October) when I issued a diatribe against Antonism (Monkey Purge), you were overrun by a swarm of monkeys. Marie issues monkey mail-art; look what happens. We are establishing here at the IUOMA 2010 was the Year of the Monkey in mail-art. Now it appears 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit. I am afraid the monkeys are not going peacefully. Yet I have complete faith the bunnies will prevail, as they trace their heritage back to Ray himself. The monkeys are but upstarts and the victims of an ill-fated experiment gone awry. You know the drill: Don't let them have materials to make collages. Bananas? I fear this can be traced back as far as Warhol. The first Velvet Underground album's cover is a picture of large banana by Warhol. Coincidence? I think not. I hope we hear from Marie. Oh yeah, and TY for the Alex thing. Over-extended, as ever. But, hey, 26 is ahead of schedule and under budget.

Monkeys - no way!!! I was overrun  today - here's a photo I posted on the Alexander page - 23 ALL AT ONCE!! That OFFICIALLY cancels number 63 :-)  so DVS - no worries...
