Charles Bukowski postcard from IUOMA member Nadine Wendell-Mojica (Burbank, California, USA)

June 11, 2014 - I am thrilled to receive this mail-art package from Nadine Wendell-Mojica, who is the MinXus-Lynxus Hollywood correspondent. This installment consists mainly of unaltered, found materials. Their juxtaposition allows for some unusual associations. First, I am very happy  to have this Charles Bukowski postcard. Here is the reverse side with a tiny note from Nadine:

Charles Bukowski is certainly famous for working on his “typer.” Nadine Wendell-Mojica invokes the era of the typewriter, inherently a part of literature, that produced not only Bukowski’s masterpieces but much classic concrete poetry and other typographical compositions such as Kerouac’s On the Road, which is forever associated with visionary cosmic light year line associative speed rant typing. And Los Angeles, after all, is Bukowski’s city muse. Characterizing type-writing, Truman Capote famously wrote about On the Road: “That’s not writing. It’s typing.” Then our exclusive Hollywood report takes a turn with pages about prize pigs and pig breeding:

What are we to take away from this DaDa signification of Bukowski and prize pigs? We have here a great confusion worthy of the Neoists. Pig breeding certainly fits well with MinXus-Lynxus themes and the Mink Ranch, so Nadine might have tailored her mail-art for that purpose. We also know Nadine Wendell-Mojica toured the great USA Midwest recently. Perhaps that inspired the elevation of hog marketing to art. Perhaps this is an expressionist vision of So Cal life. I consider it indeterminate, but I surely do like it. Nadine Wendell-Mojica is also skilled with caricatures, which are displayed on the envelope:

Many thanks to Nadine Wendell-Mojica, sleuthing the gritty streets of L.A. so that we might know the truth.
