I received this collaged postcard from Steve Dalachinsky this month, but didn't get around to a reply before he passed away yesterday. He said he didn't have a lot of mail art correspondents anymore, but we knew Steve personally because of shared poetry circles, where Steve was a shining star. Our son crossed paths with Steve at Sun Ra Arkestra earlier on the same day he experienced a stroke. Later that day he performed his poetry at "A Book About Death" 10th Anniversary Exhibit at Islip Art Museum on Long Island NY. It's documented about 50 minutes into the 2 hr. video they made at the opening of performances. Chuck Welch, Honey Millman, Mark Bloch, Steve and other performed. He was taken directly from the museum to Long Island Hospital, accompanied by Yuko Otamo, his wife (also a poet, they were always seen together). A massive brain hemorrhage that night at the hospital was the beginning of the end. Loved that guy - a wonderful human being.
