A huge thank you to Gerda Osteneck in Sasketchewan, Canada

This thick packet of delicacies arrived a few weeks ago.  It includes a sampling of handmade papers that Gerda created this summer - most of which include linen, rayon and other fabrics as well as more conventional fibers used to make “paper”.

They are all so beautiful tho the one I love most is the front dark blue square made of rayon &…

blog the seventh: air mails

I have a great liking for artistamps and keep any that come my way in a set of four albums.  Luckily the standard size spring-back album, although a little old fashioned, is just the right size to accommodate full sheets, as well as pages of individual stamps, cards and envelopes,  so the whole thing gets to look better and better with each passing month.

Amongst the pages is this one full, not of artistamps per say, but of imitation air mail labels.  I wish I could find more as they…

Blog the sixth: A cascade from Cascadia

I have had a sudden windfall - an embarrassment of riches from the  Postmaster General of Cascadia - enough to warrant a whole blog though I will only post a few images, partly because I am sure most of the stamps and cards will have already been noted and partly because I would rather be away from this infernal machine and busy on more mail.

First, I will post the envelopes because I think most stamp designers (or other mail artists too I dare say) have an interest in seeing how…

Steve Random collaboration!

  1. I came across a sheet of 4x5 negatives that I had done in college. On the sleeve I had written "Random MCAD 2002". That same day I had recieved a letter from Steve Random, and while piecing together my response i decided to include the sheet of negatives I had come across because I found it amusing that they said "random", i added a old library slip and sent it. This is the outcome. We each had it twice and I am thrilled with the results. The pics are kinda crappy, bit negatives suck…

Sharon Silverman's 50 MAILART BOOKS project -- WOW

Above and beyond "documentation"! This is a jaw-dropping gift.

Sharon's project is here: She is working on what she calls a "small library" of mailart books, and she pairs each of the 10 pieces you send her with a work of her own.…

New trend- Book Markers!

Recently several book marks have arrived here at the Monster Atelier.  I can ( and do) mark my place in a book with all sorts of flat items, tho' ATCs get lost.  But these are deluxe, fully designed working book markers, even with tails. Both Norma Soulet and Mail Art Martha clearly marked them with their usage.…

The Artistamp Review #1

Adam Roussopoulos created a most excellent inaugural issue of his artistamp review, with promises (threats?) for the next in 2020.  I especially liked the bonus pocket in the back.

He also sent a "pop-up" piece of folding art landscape.  Very cool.…
