Pynchon In Public Day

The first 'Pynchon In Public Day' is planned for 8th May 2011. All ideas are welcome. If you do not know of Pynchon, I suggest reading 'The Crying of Lot 49'. A key part of the plot is W.A.S.T.E., an underground mail network, complete with its own mail boxes, stamps and a sub-culture of those who avoid the 'official' postal service. Examples of invited work includes mail-art that feature muted post horns, W.A.S.T.E. insignia, faux stamps, unofficial postal routes and photographs of people…

Fabric postcard - from Jen Staggs

When I am lucky to find mail art in my mailbox I always think about what the postman must have thought of it (I know, it's silly). I am picturing him with a big smile on his face, and I am sure he smiled today, as I did when I found Jen's card.

Needle and thread have no secret for the queen of vintage. There is no limit to what can be sewed. Look at those stamps! (my favorite part of the card). I didn't even know you could do… Continue

Great Mail-Art from Michalis Kotsaris

I am notoriously bad at scanning & posting the mail-art I recieve. This piece came a few weeks ago from Michalis Kotsaris in Greece. How this was done is beyond me, but I have spent many cups of coffee staring at it. Thank you Michalis! -AWJ-

Received from Douglas Galloway

I've noticed that Douglas has been extremely busy of late and this is the one he's sent me. I've only just noticed that most of the artwork is guitars. Nice one Douglas!

Received from Douglas Galloway, USA--ink rendering

I've gotten beastly results with ink so I was very excited to receive this in the mail the other day. At least I think it's an ink rendering. I would love to know how Douglas made it. To me, living here in Minnesota where the current conditions are cold and icy, it gives the impression of a distant mirage coming off a winter highway. Take into consideration the polar bear postage…

Received: Fashion-Focused Mail-Art from Natasha Jabre (Richmond, Virginia, USA)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Natasha Jabre (Richomond, Virginia, USA)

November 22, 2010 - Natasha Jabre's first mail-art sent to me was waiting in my P.O. Box on Saturday. I was thrilled she sent me a pillow piece (above). Experience is proving that it takes some back-and-forth to learn what a friend is doing with their mail-art. My first impression of Natasha's work is that she is…
