That's a wow!  Looks like asemics or in some quarters could pass for vispo? NOW I have to go look up the origins of written music :-)

Cheryl, I think the music notation in Japan is the same, I bought an old book and it look exactly like the one we know. But some more exotic instruments have a notation of their own. Like this one (for an instrument called Koto):

I remember this - its a WONDERFUL piece. Something strikes me - is music notation the same in Japan as the West? Originally I mean?
