Is it art?

Coursera intro to art mail art assignment. Lots of debate on the site as to if anything digital is art, so here we have a paper and paint envelope with a digital photography based piece inside

On "messing up" assignements, do you know 'Painting By Numbers'? My father's one and only moment of artistic genius was when, laid up for weeks with a bad back, he decided to 'Paint by a completely different set of Numbers'. Go Dad!

Comment by David Talbot on June 17, 2013 at 9:15pm: Up untill about 3 weeks ago all my image making since school some 35 years ago was done with a camera. Thanks to Coursera I'm having great fun making a mess with paint (including accidentally painting the cat's paws blue!) and cheerfully subverting the assignment briefs to do what I want!

Oh and its thanks to Ruud finding the course forums after he got a mention in the mail art module that you have a few new members from Coursera, me included.

If she, or you, or anyone else says it's art, then it probably is art. Unless it's the cat, of course.

Why are you doing an intro to art course? You're an artist already -- what on earth can Mr/Ms/Mrs Coursera teach you?
