Nope, the snails here are mall colourful ones http://molluscs.at/gastropoda/terrestrial.html?/gastropoda/terrestr... rather than the big escargot ones brought here by the Romans to eat!

I hope you didn't eat it -- escargots should be left in piece, not fried up in garlic, French-style.

After that culinary note, I'd just like to say that this is a very nice piece of art -- dramatic even.
