Once upon a time, almost 10 years ago, Shozo Shimamoto sent his "shaven head" for add/pass/alter that developed into an "IMAGINE PEACE" project with Moreno Menarin in Italy sending out copies and painted A4 pages, too:

Now in homage to Shozo, Moreno continues to send.

I have just received about 16 " Shozo heads" in three packets that Moreno has sent me...and they are already added, altered, whew,

and in the mail to many in the Mail Art Network...watch for 'em :-)

I met Shozo in 1990 during the NetRun event (with Ryosuke Cohen and Banks) in Köln. This photo was made of one of his performances....

Visited the Gutai Historical Survey and Contemporary Response exhibit at the San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco CA. It was a wonderful overview of the art work of the Gutai group, complete with video of early performance and action art, a mud  'painting', etc. On the second floor the contributions of over 300 mail artists from around the world were displayed. These were in response to a mail art call asking for art created in the spirit of Gutai. A number of IUOMA members were represented.

The San Francisco Art Institute presents the first West Coast survey exhibition of Gutai (1954-1972), a significant avant-garde artist collective in postwar Japan that was founded by Jiro Yoshihara under a primary directive: “Do something no one’s ever done before.” Paintings by Shozo Shimamoto are included, plus numerous other events are to be offered.

The exhibition also presents an impressive collection of Mail Art elicited in response to the movement by over 200 contemporary artists from thirty countries.
