The Tree and the Sky

By Tomas Transtromer

There’s a tree walking around in the rain

it rushes past us in the pouring grey.

It has an errand.  It gathers life

out of the rain like a blackbird in an orchard.

When the rain stops so does the tree.

There it is, quiet on clear nights

waiting as we do for the moment

when the snowflakes blossom in space.

Nice idea!  :D
I have always been fascinated by the idea of earth's days getting shorter and with the longest night of the year. I am curious to see what others might do with it.

Thanks for posting this, Angie!

A contemporary viewpoint on Winter Solstice from Val...

A card from Alicia Starr in response to the Solstice Sisters telling me about her imaginary childhood friends Butta and Babe:

The other side of the card cracks me up.  Nothing says solstice like beans.  They are magic beans, perhaps?  To wish on for the New Year?  Love the snake...symbol of renewal.   :-)

Beautiful Collage from Roberto:

A Happy Winter Solstice Card from Angie & Snooky!

A carefully crafted Solstice card from Nadine Wendell.  Great work, Nadine!

Thanks for posting this. It's somewhat inspired by a favorite artist of mine.

Catherine Petre sent this fantastic print with collage elements. Unfortunately, our postal workers bend large envelopes, so the print was damaged. Still, it's such a beautiful piece. It took my breath away.
