The Peace Crane Project for Japan

THE ONE THOUSAND PEACE CRANE GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED AS OF 1/6/12. (PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MORE PEACE CRANES.)

Thank you to everyone who made peace cranes!

There's a story told in Japan that if you make a thousand origami Peace Cranes, you or someone you love will be healed. This group is for those who wish to make an origami Peace Crane which will then be sent to the Hiroshima Peace Museum.

Totally awesome! Thank you for documenting this and sending it off. I'll look forward to some future pictures.

It was really great to be part of this group project. I have always wanted to send peace cranes to Hiroshima, but never thought I could make 1000. Well, together we can do just about anything.

Thanks LTS, for the great idea, and your excellent follow-through.

The Peace Crane Project's journey to Japan began today from the post office...

The box has 1,000 peace cranes, all of the collages made by IUOMA members, a letter of introduction, a DVD showing people at the library making and stringing cranes, and a request that they send us a photo of the cranes hanging in the Children's Peace Park at the Hiroshima Peace Museum.

Off they go to Japan!  (Notice one of the peace cranes that the mailman is holding in his left hand - we gave him one and he keeps it at his work desk.)

All of the group's peace cranes before the box was sealed and sent to Japan!

All of the peace cranes have been packed and I am planning on sending the box next week, so group members still have time to contact me if they wish to send a photo of themselves (jpg).  I'm also planning on including the names and countries of all of the artists who made collages or cranes.  I will not include street addresses to protect your privacy.

The Peace Crane Box in front of display panels that were used at the local library during the peace crane making-and-stringing events. On the top of the box, you can see all of the collages made by IUOMA artists, they will also be making the trip to Japan.

It takes a Dell desktop computer box to hold One Thousand Peace Cranes.
