Pam's Traveling Art Journals

Pam's Traveling Art Journals

I made some changes to this project.  There doesn't seem to be enough interest for me to send out a journal each month.  So, I changed the name from A Year of Art Journals to Pam's Traveling Art Journals.  This way we can pass one journal around as people are interested, and when it's full I'll start a new one.

These are 5 1/2" x 8 1/2".  I'm making them by hand, and keeping the weight so they can be mailed as letter size, or just a couple of stamps in the US, I don't know how the postal system works in other countries, but at least it will be minimal postage.  Note: When I mailed the first journal, it was 1.2 ounces, so I put a postcard stamp on with the regular letter (.50) stamp.

Please let me know if you want to participate.  Sometimes people just like to watch, so I'm not going to assume you want to be added just because you join this group.

Post here when you receive the journal, and when you send the journal.  Only keep the journal for 2 weeks. If you need more time post here, so we know what's going on.

Paint, draw, collage, whatever you want, but it must lay flat. The journal needs to be able to close all the way, so it can be mailed easily, and if there's too much stuff added to the journal, the weight will increase and so will the postage.

When you're done, you can send the journal on to the next person on the list.  If the journal is full, please send it back to me.

When I receive the full journal, I'll send documentation to everyone who contributed.

This discussion is for the August 2018 Journal.  I'm thinking it will be easier to manage if the journals have their own discussion with the list of participants.  Of course you can also post in the…Continue

Maha, the instructions are at the top of this page.  They were rather wordy before, so I simplified it.  When you receive a traveling art journal, you decorate a page or two, then send it to the next person on the list.  That's pretty much all there is to it.

You want to keep your work flat and don't add stuff to the journal, only because that will make it weigh more, which will increase the postage.  You can paint, draw, collage, or write poetry.  If you collage, just keep the weight and postage in mind, and don't go crazy with 'stuff'.  Flat paper should be fine.

Let me know if you still want to be added to the list.

Thanks Amber!  I always loved contributing to traveling art journals.  I did a lot of them on the 1001 Journals site.  They used to be so popular!  I started this group with larger journals and people seemed interested, but then realized the postage would be too much.  So I changed the journals to hand made.  The one I mailed only took one stamp plus a little more, so I added a postcard stamp.  There's not much else I can do aside from making them the size of decos, but that defeats the purpose.  At that point they're no long journals, they're decos.

If you start passing your journal around, I'll be happy to join in.

I have been trying for many many months to find someone interested in doing this.. recently I found some dyan reavely insert journals on clearance... I found two people so far who want to do this.. some complain about the postage.. I legit only used a regular stamp and a 10 cent stamp for the one going in the us and the other is going to canada and i used one over the pond stamp.. I think its a fun idea.

People used to love participating in traveling art journals.  I noticed they're scarce these days, so I thought I would give it a try.  I figured I would send out one a month for a year to get journals circulating, but there doesn't seem to be much interest, even after I made them lighter to mail.

I'll probably keep this group, but I'm thinking of changing it.  I think one journal at a time, rather than one a month will be better.

Awesome!  I'm happy the journal made it safely.  Yes, sharing photos is fine.  I think it will be fun to watch the progress, and if anything happens to the journals during its travels, at least we'll have the photos so far.  But if anyone doesn't want to, that's fine too.  It's not a requirement.
