Literature and Art

For people who read and enjoy good literature--literary classics or literary contemporary and like to make art about it.  Using literature as inspiration for our art.  Also for people interested in writing letters about literature.  This is also a meeting place for The New Arzamas Literary Circle, which is dedicated to writing creative letters on literary topics.

LITERATURE and ART

TOP:

Handmade Ezra Pound (Ezruckus Poundamonium) paper doll for a series of skits in which E.P is the main star. --Theresa Williams

MIDDLE:

Automatic writing by Nancy Bell Scott.

BOTTOM:

One of a set of cards made while contemplating the poet Theodore Roethke.  On November 12, Roethke suffered the first of what was to be many mental episodes.  It happened in the cold Michigan woods, and he described the experience as having a "secret" revealed to him, which he said was the secret of "Nijinsky."  Nijinsky was a famous ballet dancer who was institutionalized for schizophrenia.  With your permission, I'd like to post your artwork at my blog:  The Letter Project.   I'm also looking for letters about literature and creativity.  All works from the blog have gone through the postal system.

Large painting around a quote from the poem KINDNESS by Sylvia Plath:
What is so real as the cry of a child?
A rabbit’s cry may be wilder
But it has no soul

When working on this painting the bus accident in Switzerland happened where 28 children died.
I was deeply troubled by the coincidence!

That's poignant, especially on music notation paper. I hope she writes a follow-up one day.

Large painting made for the 60th birthday of KIRPAL GORDON, USA
around a quote from his book ROUND EARTH, OPEN SKY (Giant Steps Press, PO BOX 7539, Freeport, NY 11520 USA; www.giantstepspress.com)
REPAIR THE TEAR IN THE WORLD THROUGH ACTS OF KINDNESS

Luchtmens (Dutch) = Luft Mensch (German) = Sky Man (English), central character of the book I recommend to all to read.
Luchtmens is also a central character in the first poetry volumes of Lucebert in the 1950’s (part of Cobra movement and the 50’s rebel poets in the Netherlands and the Flemish part of Belgium, is this a coincidence or what?)

It's good to read him (and about him) here. And you are like a creative switchboard, Guido.

Mark Sonnenfeld is on ongoing collaborations with everybody who is creative, great guy!

This is an ongoing collaboration you have with Sonnenfeld, Cheryl? If I'd had to guess, it would have been you because of the cut-up paintings mentioned. :--}  I can't see it too well but might just be worse than usual eyesight!

This is a poem that encourages me/us to love myself/ourselves and what I/we do although I/we do not see the final outcome or the meaning of it, thank you so much Theresa!
