Literature and Art

For people who read and enjoy good literature--literary classics or literary contemporary and like to make art about it.  Using literature as inspiration for our art.  Also for people interested in writing letters about literature.  This is also a meeting place for The New Arzamas Literary Circle, which is dedicated to writing creative letters on literary topics.

LITERATURE and ART

TOP:

Handmade Ezra Pound (Ezruckus Poundamonium) paper doll for a series of skits in which E.P is the main star. --Theresa Williams

MIDDLE:

Automatic writing by Nancy Bell Scott.

BOTTOM:

One of a set of cards made while contemplating the poet Theodore Roethke.  On November 12, Roethke suffered the first of what was to be many mental episodes.  It happened in the cold Michigan woods, and he described the experience as having a "secret" revealed to him, which he said was the secret of "Nijinsky."  Nijinsky was a famous ballet dancer who was institutionalized for schizophrenia.  With your permission, I'd like to post your artwork at my blog:  The Letter Project.   I'm also looking for letters about literature and creativity.  All works from the blog have gone through the postal system.

Hi Theresa,

What kind of collection of Celan letters did you order, in recent years highlighted are his letters with editor and lover Ingeborg Bachmann.

I have the complete letters between him and Gisele Celan/Lestrange, translated in French, volume 1 the letters, volume 2 are notes and art works, stunning!!

Rebellion is the only way to live a life in this absurd world
(Albert Camus)

Another stunning collage by friend and art mentor Robert Varlez, Belgium.

I have to check but I think this must be a quote from Camus book The rebellious man (GV)

THE CONFERENCE OF BIRDS

New small painted envelope inspired by the book of ATTAR (1140-1230) a mystic poet from Persia and sufist. I regularly return to this book and make new paintings.

Words do need to be refreshed--yes, indeed

The sister was not a mister. Was this a surprise. It was. The conclusion came when there was no arrangement. All the time that there was a question there was a decision. Replacing a casual acquaintance with an ordinary daughter does not make a son.

--Gertrude Stein, Tender Buttons

Thanks for the link, De Villo. Anyone else consider Stein to be the mother of deconstruction?

Reworked collage around THE LAST FISH poem by Basso, I introduced the image of a scorpion fish, not exactly by accident, after a nuclear blast the only species that survive are scorpions, so in my twisted poetic mind the scorpion fish is the the last fish !!!

Hi DVS,

Thanks for the link to GREEN INTEGER, amazing publications:

MICHAUX is in the list and PAUL SNOEK !! That was a major Flemish poet I met in person when I was 17. I did not know he was translated in English. I have to order that one for sure!

So thanks again,

Guido
