Elefantus (1948-2010)

Information

Elefantus (1948-2010)

This month, November 2015, it has been five years that we heard the sad news: Ennio Pauluzzi had passed away.

Many know him as Elefantus, some know him as Artennius. Many have exchanged elephants and other mail art with him.

In the eighties he started his mail art career. He published zines, among them Elefanzines. He was an avid Postcrosser. He created beautiful photos, stamps, and of course: mail art.
Alas I never have met him in person, our contact was limited to exchanging mail. But by the way he always replied, I think him a friendly, creative, thoughtful, enthusiast and unique person.
He was? He still is, as he lives on in his mail art and in our thoughts, and hearts.

For anyone who misses Ennio Pauluzzi too, for anyone who is missing Elefantus, this group has been created. To share his mailed art, the photos he made. To tribute to and share good memories of a unique mail artist.

Photo sent by Ennio in May 2010.

Today would have been Ennio’s birthday.
His photo account still exists, and you can see these photos from 2008, showing him posting mail: https://www.flickr.com/photos/elefantus/2443251311/in/album-7215761... (with link to a short movie of the same action).

Today would have been his birthday. Ennio Pauluzzi, aka Elefantus, aka ARTennius. Every time I draw an elephant, wish I could have sent it to him.

Ennio's mail art is in our eyes and mind, the mail artist is in our heARTs.

Spring 2010 I found a card with this postmark at a collector's fair, which I  bought to send to Italy, to Ennio. While my mail was on its way to him, in exact in the same time he was sending mail to me, including this beautiful stamp print - Ruud already showed one in red; this one in black:

For a long time I exchanged mail with Ennio Pauluzzi. Have many of his Elefanzines in my TAM-Archive. Wonderful memories of a wonderful person. Yes, still enjoy what he did and the wonderful surprises he brought in my P.O. Box

A book has been created as a tribute to Ennio Pauluzzi, by Vittore Baroni, Anna Boschi and Claudio Romeo. It is in Italian, on the last page you can find text in English.
For the ones who don't speak Italian, the text of this version is transportable to an online translator.

See also Claudio's post.
