You could donate it to a Museum's art book collection. I once heard that the Nelson-Atkins museum in Kansas City received art books into its collection. They might still do this, or other museums might do it as well.

A very clear statement Alex. You have every right to use this final object for any purpose you choose.

Alex started this project. So the IUOMA-Novel belongs to him after it is finished. The discussion now going on is only to give suggestions in where it eventually could end up.

It could also end in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. (Access is free!) They collect contemporary crafts in general and I have seen exhibitions of artist's hand made books there. But to publish it first is the best idea.

When the Novel is filled up it goes back to Alex. It's his. If it goes to a museum that's good as a ¿ central? place
available for many to see. But one reason mailart avoided museums is that they charge for access, usually.
A library is free, usually. I can't think of any place that would be bad for it.

With Alex -- it was his notion, yes? Under his moniker, he could contribute it to any of many important collections, including the Center for Book Arts in NYC (location of huge mail art show not long ago) or the Emily Harvey Foundation, NYC (host of the recent Matthew Rose "A Book About Death" project and show).
ciao, ciao,
Alex started the project, so he has a final vote in this I believe. If he wants this IUOMA-Novel in his own collection he has every right to it. This discussion is meant to make people aware of the fact that mail-art pieces are all about process, but when a project is finished even mail-art becomes an artifact. It is then archived or recycled, destroyed or when lucky it ends up in a museum. Just the place mail-art is trying to avoid in the beginning years.
